Left Tab Modified-Block Style Letter

Setting a left tab is so easy and helpful when composing a modified-block style letter. Nonetheless setting a left tab will make your letter look organized and professional. Follow the steps below to learn how to set a 3.25" tab!

First Step: Open Microsoft Word (blank document)

Second Step: If you do not have the ruler already displayed, click the "View" tab and then click "Ruler" (check mark in the box appears to verify the ruler has appeared on your document)

Third Step: Top far left of your rule will be a square, if you click it inside the square multiple times you will see it changes from different arrows. Most often you will see "L" arrow for the left tab, use that if possible. On my version, however, the arrow pointing upward will work also.

Fourth Step: We are creating a modified-block style letter so you will set the tab stop at 3.25".  If you are using a Mac computer, like myself you will go to the top of your screen where the 'apple' is along with 'File', 'Edit', 'View', and so on. Click 'Format' go down to 'Tabs...' A smaller screen with pop up (pictured below) and you will type in 3.25 into the 'Default stops:' box. After doing that, click 'OK'

Fifth Step: Click on the document. Press "Enter" on your keyboard 5 times and then press "tab" one time. This will bring your cursor to the tab marker you created at 3.25-inch mark on your ruler. Since this is a modified-block style letter, insert the date at the 3.25-inch mark.

And there you have it, you have successfully created a 3.25 left tab stop for a Modified-Block Style Letter!
